A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.

Although not quite at the identical stature as sparing festive fowl, but the county's top official conducted a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a current administration.

“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a prosperous future without fear.”

This ceremony, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The animal, provided by a local firefighter, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently named “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Future Secured

Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.

“It captures the character of Miami: vibrant, varied, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Each year, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”

Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and cafecito as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
