Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's natural for questions to be asked about his position following a further convincing loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in twelve games, marking the club's poorest run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I have got plenty of backing from management,” the coach stated.
“It would be nice to change things and earn three points naturally but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it's typical that people question you.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to provide details on his discussions with the team officials, Slot explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “In the normal conversations we have I sense the belief. However I've not talked to them since this game so far so let’s see.”
Familiar Problems and Player Response
Slot lamented recurring failings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his view of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” Jones said.
“It is not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a phase like this with performances so bad.”
Jones concluded, “However we still have that badge on our shirts. And as long as it is removed, we’re always going to battle.”
“We’re going to try to help the side back to the top, show everyone again what this club is about and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
