Manchester United Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for United

The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
