Antony Price, the influential style architect behind a series of unforgettable images associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died at the age of 80.

His reputation was built on his architectural shapes and dramatic aesthetics, including the light-hued ensembles that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "the song Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance online."

Price's death comes less than a month after he presented his latest collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Singer Lily Allen modelled a dress that paid homage to the iconic black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" once worn by the late Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the tight, button-detailed trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger famously wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show featured as its opener looks from model Jerry Hall, who also wore the marriage dress Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to fuse tailoring for all genders along with his technical proficiency in crafting sculptural silhouettes established him as a "true original," according to the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he commenced designing pieces for Camilla, now Queen Consort, including various looks for her American tour following her marriage.

After a career spanning more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in partnership with the label 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Performative Style: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The fashion world mourns the loss to a authentic original whose impact on fashion and music remains indelibly etched.
