The former Liverpool manager says coming back to coach Liverpool is conceivable.
The German coach, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, indicated that returning someday remains something that could happen. Klopp, post a game-changing near-decade reign featuring a European Cup triumph and ending the club's long wait in 30 years, now holds roles overseeing worldwide football within the Red Bull organization and as an advisor for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
They secured the Premier League last season, but many fans who revere Klopp would welcome the notion that he might come back one day. Speaking candidly, he explained to his interviewer: “I declared I refuse to lead another team in England. So that means should it be the Reds...absolutely. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“At 58 years old, so I could make the decision later on, it's uncertain. Must I choose now? In that case, I'd stay away. But thank God, it's not necessary. I can just see what lies ahead.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
When asked about what circumstances must arise to bring him back to management, he revealed he was not instantly drawn to such a return. “It's unclear to me, I enjoy my current role,” he stated. “I don't crave being a coach; I avoid standing in the rain through long matches; I'm glad to skip interviews four times, three times a week or doing numerous chats each week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area as a dressing room, but sitting in a restaurant with the team enjoying conversation, that’s nice. We won a lot of games so there was often positive atmosphere at the club. I can still hear Van Dijk's laughter in my ear for example.”
Praise for His Successor
He commended for his successor, acknowledging his role due to the changes which secured the championship in the previous season. Liverpool have lost four in a row in all competitions after a summer spending spree, though he denied the suggestion of it representing a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward in Flo[rian] Wirtz, critics will regret if you use the wrong words. A remarkable prospect. [Hugo] Ekitike, incredible player. This is a well-built thoughtfully assembled roster. Fans shouldn't fret about Liverpool, they'll bounce back.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
He shared movingly about the death of Diogo Jota, a player he signed during his tenure, along with the consequences for the team. Jota lost his life in a road accident together with his sibling this past summer.
“Who can fill the void of somebody like Diogo? It goes beyond his on-field talent, his personality mattered. I can’t imagine the squad missing him. I find it difficult to discuss regarding this. A profound tragedy for all the boys also. Nobody at Liverpool will ever use it for poor performances but it is the situation. You walk in a dressing room where he was omnipresent. Coping with it on a personal level is difficult. Impossible.”
