The network's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Substantial Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

During the fall season, Adult Swim welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the network launched a fresh animated series with a strikingly different tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. During a period often characterized by cynicism, this show's earnestness found an audience and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Network Praise

Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and supported its uniquely offbeat sensibility.

"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about watching this endearing family go about their daily lives.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to evolve comedy past its long-running cynical streak. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

What Comes Next

Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to enjoy the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The entire series is currently streaming on HBO Max.
