UN:Me: An Psychological Thriller Merging Survival Horror and Among Us Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs digital showcase unveiled several fascinating future games, but one especially has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo experience appears to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the suspicion-driven heart of Among Us.

"This is a unique experience where a girl containing several personalities inside her must escape from a maze of the psyche," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Fractured Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of high school age. Within her exist four separate souls, each with their own fears and drives. These entities can seize control spontaneously, releasing their innermost phobias upon her without warning.

Judging by revealed gameplay, much of the narrative unfolds within a creepy hospital, while other scenes depict the main character exploring a desolate church.

An Environment of Individual Dread

"What are you afraid of? What makes you uncomfortable?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. People in power. Elements that seem trivial to others can trigger a deep instinct inside us. This game delves into that idea — anxieties that are specific to every individual."

The core mechanic revolves around managing the persona that surfaces at a particular moment. However, these souls will switch involuntarily during gameplay. During exploration, every persona's fears become amplified and attack the protagonist one after another. When the soul changes, so does the specific fear the player experiences.

Unsettling Aesthetics and a Deadly Choice

Initially, UN:Me displays noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is filled with nurses who all share the identical visage, with disturbingly broad smiles. Figures in the waiting room have enormous blooms growing from their heads are. Floral motifs are a recurring element, juxtaposing natural beauty with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me presents a unique mechanic. Players must determine which of the four souls inhabiting the protagonist is the "real" one. "Each of the souls asserts that the body belongs to them," explains a developer. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

After a player have deduced a soul is an impostor, they must eliminate it. However, since every entity can deceive or hide the reality, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the true [soul] with your own hands," a voice suggests. "The final entity remaining might be a fake. Either way, your choices are irreversible."

UN:Me does not yet have a publicly announced release date, but it is available to follow on platforms.
